Money-Saving Tips for Your Andaman Trip

  • Book your Andaman and Nicobar packages at least 45 days in advance, especially during the December to January peak season, before ferries and hotels sell out.
  • Travel during the shoulder season, from April to May, when packages are typically 20 to 30 per cent cheaper than peak season rates.
  • If you are travelling on a budget, plan for extra nights in Port Blair rather than Havelock, since beachfront stays in Havelock tend to be priced higher.
  • Average Andaman trip durations have grown from around 6 nights to 8 nights as more travellers add Neil Island and Baratang to their itinerary, so factor this into your leave planning.

How to Reach the Andaman Islands from India

Reaching Andaman is easier than many travellers expect, with regular flight connections from major Indian cities. Thrillophilia offers both land-only and flight-inclusive Andaman and Nicobar packages, along with airport transfers to ensure a smooth and hassle-free start to your trip.

By Air

Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) in Port Blair is the main gateway to the islands. Direct and connecting flights operate from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, with IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India, and Air India Express being the main airlines on these routes. Most Andaman trip packages include airport pickup, so a representative or driver will be waiting for you when you land.

By Sea

Passenger ships connect Port Blair to Chennai, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam, though these journeys take several days each way. This option is mainly chosen by travellers who enjoy long-distance sea travel rather than as a primary way to reach the islands, since flying is faster and more reliable for most itineraries.

Inter-Island Ferry Transfers

Once you are in Port Blair, ferries are the easiest and most convenient way to travel between islands. During peak season (December to January), it is best to book these at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance.

Route

Private Ferry Cost

Government Ferry Cost

Travel Time

Port Blair to Havelock

INR 1,200 - 2,500

INR 400 - 800

Limited availability

Around 1 hour

Neil Island to Port Blair

INR 600 - 1,800

INR 400 - 800

1.5 to 2 hours

Private AC ferries are faster and more comfortable, while government ferries are cheaper but run on limited daily schedules. If your Andaman itinerary includes Havelock to Neil Island, note that these tickets are usually booked separately and not always bundled into the base package, so it is worth confirming this with your travel consultant.

One traveller Manoharan Uthan, who booked Andaman Coastal Retreat | Tropical Treasures and Island Delights in March 2026 with us summed up the experience perfectly: "Excellent and wonderful trip. We enjoyed thoroughly with all sports activities and spent great time at the beaches. The resorts at Havelock and Neil Island were fantastic and all the transfers and ferry arrangements were handled seamlessly, allowing us to focus completely on enjoying the trip. "

Do You Need a Permit to Visit Andaman?

Indian nationals do not need any special permit to visit the standard tourist islands covered in most Andaman tour packages, including Port Blair, Havelock, Neil Island, Ross Island, and Baratang. That said, carrying a valid government-issued photo ID is necessary, as it may be checked at hotels, ferry terminals, and security points.

Foreign nationals need a Restricted Area Permit (RAP), which is issued free of cost on arrival at Port Blair airport and is valid for up to 30 days, covering most areas tourists typically visit.

A few areas remain completely off-limits to protect indigenous communities. North Sentinel Island is fully prohibited to safeguard the Sentinelese tribe, and areas inhabited by the Jarawa tribe are similarly protected, with no entry or interaction permitted.

For any permit requirements, the best Andaman packages, all curated by Thrillophilia, are stitched with permit guidances with thorough documentation checks.

  • Documents to Carry
  • A valid photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, or driving licence)
  • Hotel booking confirmation
  • Ferry tickets (digital copies are accepted)
  • Travel insurance, to cover unexpected delays or medical needs

Top Places to Visit in Andaman

The Andaman is more than just beautiful beaches. Each island offers a different experience, from historical landmarks in Andaman and tropical coastlines to mangrove forests and coral-rich waters. Whether you're planning a short holiday or a week-long island escape, these are the places most travellers include in their itinerary.

Cellular Jail, Port Blair

One of the most important historical landmarks in India, Cellular Jail tells the story of India's freedom struggle. The evening Light and Sound Show uses narration, music, and lighting effects to bring the prison's history to life, making it a must-visit attraction in Port Blair.

  • Best for: Exploring Andaman’s history and culture
  • Best time to visit: Evening for the Light and Sound Show
  • Entry fee: Around INR 50–100 for the show

Radhanagar Beach, Havelock Island

Often ranked among the most beautiful beaches in Asia, Radhanagar Beach is famous for its soft white sand, turquoise waters, and spectacular sunsets. The beach has also received Blue Flag certification for its high standards of cleanliness, safety, and environmental management.

  • Best for: Beach walks, swimming, and sunset views
  • Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon

Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep)

For travellers seeking a quieter and more laid-back atmosphere, Neil Island is an excellent choice. Its beaches are less crowded than Havelock's, while attractions like Bharatpur Beach, Laxmanpur Beach, and the Natural Bridge offer beautiful coastal scenery and calm surroundings.

  • Best for: Relaxation, scenic beaches, and slow travel
  • How to reach: Ferry from Port Blair or Havelock

Baratang Island

Baratang offers a completely different side of the Andaman. The island is known for its limestone caves and mangrove-lined waterways, making it a popular day trip for travellers interested in nature and unique landscapes.

  • Best for: Nature lovers and day excursions
  • Time needed: Full day

Ross Island (Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island)

Once the British administrative headquarters in Andaman, Ross Island is now home to fascinating ruins surrounded by tropical vegetation. Old churches, bakeries, and colonial buildings give visitors a glimpse into the island's past.

  • Best for: History and photography
  • Time needed: 3–4 hours

North Bay Island

Known for its clear waters and colourful coral reefs, North Bay Island is one of the most popular destinations for marine activities. Even visitors who don't swim can enjoy the underwater world through glass-bottom boat rides.

  • Best for: Coral viewing and marine experiences
  • How to reach: Ferry from Port Blair

Top Things to Do in Andaman

Beyond sightseeing, Andaman offers some of the best water-based experiences in India. Many activities are suitable even for beginners and non-swimmers, making them accessible to almost everyone.

Scuba Diving

Scuba diving is one of the most popular activities in the Andaman thanks to its clear waters and vibrant marine life. Havelock Island is considered the best place to dive, with several PADI-certified dive centres offering guided experiences for beginners.

  • Location: Havelock Island
  • Cost: INR 3,999–6,000 per person
  • Good for non-swimmers: Yes, with instructor assistance

Snorkelling

Snorkelling allows you to explore colourful coral reefs and tropical fish without needing a diving certification. The shallow waters around Elephant Beach make it one of the best snorkelling spots in Andaman.

  • Location: Elephant Beach, Havelock
  • Cost: INR 1,499–2,500 per person

Sea Walking

Sea walking lets you walk on the seabed while wearing a special helmet that supplies oxygen. It is ideal for travellers who want to experience marine life up close without learning how to swim or dive.

  • Location: North Bay Island
  • Cost: INR 3,000–4,500 per person

Glass-Bottom Boat Ride

This is a great option for families, children, and non-swimmers. The transparent base of the boat allows you to view coral reefs and marine life without entering the water.

  • Location: North Bay Island and Havelock
  • Cost: INR 500–1,000 per person

Kayaking Through Mangroves

Kayaking offers a peaceful way to explore Andaman's mangrove forests and coastal waterways. Early morning and sunset sessions are particularly scenic.

  • Location: Havelock and Neil Island
  • Cost: INR 800–2,000 per hour

Jet Skiing

For travellers looking for speed and adventure, jet skiing is a fun way to experience the coastline.

  • Location: Corbyn's Cove Beach
  • Cost: INR 1,000–2,500 per person

Night Kayaking and Bioluminescence

One of Andaman's most unique experiences, night kayaking allows you to see bioluminescent plankton glowing in the water under the right conditions. This seasonal activity is especially popular among adventure seekers.

  • Location: Havelock Island
  • Cost: INR 2,000–4,000 per person

Island-Hopping by Ferry

One of the best experiences in the Andaman is simply travelling between islands. Ferry rides between Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil Island offer beautiful ocean views and allow travellers to experience the unique character of each destination.

  • Best for: First-time visitors and photographers

Best Time to Visit Andaman

Andaman can be visited throughout the year, but your experience will depend on what you want from the trip. If you're planning to spend time on the beaches, enjoy water sports, and move between islands without worrying about weather disruptions, timing matters. Most experienced travellers consider October to May the best period to visit Andaman, as the seas are calmer, ferries run more reliably, and underwater visibility is at its best.

October to November: Best for Relaxed Travel

Many frequent visitors consider October and November the most underrated months for an Andaman trip. The monsoon has just ended, the islands look lush and green, and tourist crowds are still relatively low. Beaches are quieter, ferry bookings are easier to secure, and hotel rates are often lower than peak-season prices. Sea conditions are generally good for snorkelling and diving, making this a great time for travellers who want a relaxed experience without paying peak-season rates.

December to February: Best Overall Weather

This is the most popular time to visit Andaman, and for good reason. The weather is pleasant, the humidity is lower, and the sea is usually calm and crystal clear. Water activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, sea walking, and glass-bottom boat rides operate at their best during these months. Sunset spots like Radhanagar Beach are particularly beautiful during winter. However, this is also when demand is highest, so flights, ferries, and hotels should ideally be booked at least a month or two in advance.

March to May: Great for Water Activities

Although temperatures become warmer and humidity increases, March to May remains an excellent time for beach lovers and adventure seekers. Underwater visibility is often at its peak, making it one of the best periods for scuba diving and snorkelling. You'll also find better hotel deals compared to the winter months. If you don't mind a little heat during the day, this season offers a great balance of good weather, fewer crowds, and lower costs.

June to September: Monsoon Season

The monsoon transforms Andaman into a greener and quieter destination, but it also brings challenges. Heavy rainfall and rough seas can affect ferry schedules, and many water sports operate on limited schedules or close temporarily. Travellers visiting during this season should be flexible with their plans and avoid tight connections between islands. On the positive side, accommodation rates are at their lowest, making it the most budget-friendly time to visit.

Travel Notes & Insider Tips

  • If your main goal is scuba diving, snorkelling, and island hopping, plan your trip between October and May.
  • December and January are the busiest months, especially around Christmas and New Year, when hotels and ferries often sell out weeks in advance.
  • April and May can offer savings of 20–30% compared to peak winter prices while still providing excellent weather for most activities.
  • During the monsoon, keep at least one buffer day in your itinerary, as ferry cancellations can occasionally delay travel between islands.
  • Jolly Buoy Island typically remains closed from June to September, so check seasonal schedules before planning your visit.

Our Recommendation: For the best combination of pleasant weather, clear waters, manageable crowds, and good value, visit Andaman between October and November or March and May. If budget is not a concern and you want the most reliable weather conditions, December to February remains the top choice.

Is Andaman Safe? Safety Tips and Practical Advice

Andaman is generally a safe destination for Indian travellers, including solo travellers and families, but its island setting means a bit of extra planning goes a long way.

Thrillophilia offers the best Andaman packages well equipped with security precautions like private vehicles with local, registered chauffeurs, a 24/7 support system, and a comprehensive safety briefing before your trip.

  • Swim only in designated areas with lifeguards present.
  • Book inter-island ferries early and keep buffer time between transfers in case of delays.
  • Network connectivity is limited on the islands. BSNL works best in Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil Island, so share your itinerary with someone before you head out.
  • Carry INR 5,000 to 10,000 in cash per person, since ATMs on Havelock and Neil Island can be unreliable.
  • Avoid swimming outside marked zones near mangroves, where saltwater crocodiles are present.
  • Streets in Havelock and Neil Island are poorly lit after 9 or 10 PM, so carry a torch if you are stepping out at night.
  • The nearest major hospital is GB Pant Hospital in Port Blair. Carry basic medication, motion sickness tablets, and sunscreen.
  • If travelling during June to September, build in an extra day for possible ferry cancellations due to weather.

I had planned this tour for my cousin. I was in touch with Shubham and Atri from booking time. Both were kind and helpful for answering and sharing the details to my queries.Later on Atri was in touch with me and he helped in customizing this tour for couple. He has clarified all my doubts, concerns during planning, booking for this tour. We opted for deluxe category and we shared our preferred list of hotels.Atri also helped in decision making for the hotels. Hotels were good and couple had nice time... Cabs were on time, food was good... Flower bed decoration was too good and also candle light dinner.. but was expecting more for candle light dinner apart from just table decoration ... Overall it was nice experience...

A complete package to cover the best parts of such a beautiful island at a reasonable price. Ours was a honeymoon trip and both of us had a great time. The guide with us was really helpful and we did not have to face any problems during the whole trip. There are good hotels also at all places where you can have good food from. The stay arranged by them was also good.

We have covered a lot of islands and each one of them gave us a bag full of good memories. Such a photographic place. I have a huge album with only Andaman pictures now. Neil Island is quite different and the sunset views from the different beaches were different. Each day was becoming so special to me as each day has something different from the previous day. I had my family with me and we went during the summer time so the heat was at times scorching but the breeze from the oceans all the time did not make us feel tired. Also, it should be mentioned that the hotels and resorts we have stayed offered us a good service and a pleasant view of the ocean was in front of our eyes every morning. The well-maintained beaches and the crystal clear water have amused us so much. I am looking forward to have similar package with much more adventurous activities in it from Thrillophilia.

I liked the swimming activity i have done at Corbyn’s Cove Beach. It is such a beautiful place with rich greenery around. The coconut fringed shore was adding charm to the entire location. The cellular jail was a surprise for me as well as the light and sound show. People from different parts of the world come over here to see all those remainings. A great deal from Thrillophilia for families and also for solo travellers.

Brilliant adventure activity to be with the wildlife underwater which was very new to me. I was so excited to touch the fishes swimming around me. My husband and I went to Andamans for our honeymoon and booked this tour separately because we wanted to do something adventurous to make our honeymoon days memorable.

Overall very good experience with Thrillophilia. Always with you during entire tour. All Tickets rec before time. All vehicles and cruise were luxurious. Andaman is really worth to visit having very clean and colourful beaches. Water is blue and green shaded. Only flaw was complimentary Snorkeling which is of no use as it doesn't cover any thing. U have to pay extra to view corals and fishes.

Aditya was our first point of contact, he helped us in planning and customizing our itenary. 2 days before travel, we got contact details of local team, where Ishak was POC for us. In Havelock we had Azmi supporting us. The entire team did a fabulous job in getting us through the planned and unplanned parts of trip. The drivers were well informed, professional and friendly. The hotel/ resort: Mansha Palace in Port Blair and Aquays in Havelock were both well maintained, clean and child friendly. Overall we had an amazing time, and I am glad to have chosen Thrillophilia for this trip. Will definitely recommend them for trips, esp to Andaman.
