Maritime Museum

Located along the Maritime promenade of the city and at the feet of Montjuïc is the spectacular Maritime Museum of Barcelona. It is a place that covers centuries’ worth of history as well as the stories of the sea, and is the perfect site to learn about Barcelona’s rich maritime past. 

Tucked inside the Royal Dockyards, the museum is also amongst the most important maritime museums in the world. It was founded in 1936 and is home to a large collection of maritime artefacts, including ship models, paintings, and photographs, along with real boats and ships as well. It also has a library with over 60,000 books and documents about maritime history. 

The Maritime Museum is divided into two parts: the permanent collection and the temporary exhibitions. The permanent collection includes a wide variety of maritime artefacts, from ancient to modern times. The collection includes ships and boats, models of different ships, paintings, and photographs. 

The temporary exhibitions showcase a specific theme or subject related to maritime history, such as the construction of sailing ships from the medieval era. The Maritime Museum is an important centre for research on maritime history.
