Casa Amatller is a building in Barcelona, designed by Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch in the Modernista style. It is one of the most emblematic of the city's many Modernista buildings and is considered to be one of the finest examples of Catalan Modernisme. The building is located on Passeig de Gràcia, one of Barcelona's most fashionable streets, and was commissioned by chocolatier Antoni Amatller. It is also one of the three important buildings that make up the city’s popular Block of Discord.
Casa Amatller is notable for its ornate facade, which is decorated with a variety of motifs inspired by Catalan culture and history. The house had a ground floor which has now been converted into a museum, in addition to four other floors, along with a garden. The entire house exudes the three major elements that represent the interests of Antoni Amatller, namely photography, chocolate and antique glassware.
The building also features a number of other Modernista elements, such as wrought iron balconies and stained glass windows. Inside, the building is just as lavish as its exterior, with a grand staircase, an intricate ceiling, and a number of beautiful stained glass windows. You can also discover numerous other attractions inside the house, including paintings by Baroque and Ramón Casas, a Hispanic-Flemish table by Bartolomé Bermejo as well as numerous glass collections and jewellery by Lalique. There is also a chocolate shop onsite, where you can get your hands on delicious chocolates or try a cup of signature Amatller hot cocoa.
