Designed like an English landscape park, the Amsterdamse Bos is the largest recreational area in Amsterdam – a perfect fit for some relaxation and quiet time. Apart from taking a walk, you can also camp on the outskirts of the Amsterdam forest, as it is locally called. There are designated camping spots located on the outskirts of the Amsterdamse Bos. If you are into planes and jets, walk down to the wide alley where you can spot many low flying yet huge planes that take off from the Schiphol airport. Since it is a planned and regularly developed space, the Amsterdamse Bos is also home to certain facilities and activities. For adventure seekers, there’s a dedicated adventure park. If you wish to feel closer to nature, you can always take a rowing boat down the long canal or explore the adjoining cheese farms.

If you don’t wish to explore the park on foot, you can also rent a bike which will let you explore the proximity even more. There’s also a naturists area which is a special area in Amsterdamse Bos reserved for sunbathing where you can soak in the glorious sunlight without any clothes on.

How to Reach Amsterdamse Bos

By Bicycle: Since Amsterdamse Bos is just 4 kms away from the main Amsterdam city, you can rent a bike and use the super convenient bicycling lanes on both sides of the road. Watch out for Amstelveenseweg and take a right after the big crossing in Amstelveen.

By Train: From the central stations, train lines 170 and 172 will take you to the Amsterdamse Bos.

Museumtram: This is a rather unique and fun way to get to Amsterdamse Bos. The train departs from the Haarlemmermeer station and will take you straight to the gates of Amsterdam forest.
