The Emerald Pool

The Krabi Emerald Pool, also known as Sa Morakot, is a natural crystal lagoon, located inside the Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve near Bang Teao Village in the Khao Pra-Bang Khram area of Ao Nang in Krabi province. You can enjoy a swim in the beautiful pond which has a width of 20 meters and a depth between 1 to 1 meters. Branching out from the pond are small streams that flow through the park. You can also opt to go for a bath or swim in any area of the streams.

The crystal clear water of the pond is very rich in minerals and can be helpful in rejuvenating your skin and body. The presence of the surrounding thick cover of the rainforest with its tropical trees and its fauna of diverse species will enhance your experience of spending some relaxing time.

• Follow one of the streams originating from the pool and opt to swim or take a bath at any place down the stream instead.

Although the Emerald Pool remains open to visitors from 8 am in the morning to 5 pm in the evening, it is best to reach the pool during the morning hours on weekdays as the place becomes crowded after 12 pm and during weekends. The Emerald Pool is open to visitors throughout the year.

Nearby Places to Visit in Emerald Pool 

1. Hot Spring: Take a dip in the nearby hot spring where naturally hollowed-out ‘bathtubs’ in the smooth stone have been filled to the brim, with water rich in minerals coming from thermal springs. The mineral salts present in the hot spring can provide relief to a number of ailments, such as rheumatism, skin problems etc.

2. Blue Pool: Located 600m further upstream from the Emerald Pool is the Blue Pool with its magical water. The pool is much hotter, being closer to the source and is surrounded by quicksand, making it unsuitable for bathing. Birdwatchers will be delighted to catch a glimpse of Gurney’s Pitta, an endangered songbird to witness.

Tips to Visit Emerald Pool Krabi

1. For hiking through the forest trail, put on comfortable walking shoes or sneakers.

2. Be careful while entering the Emerald Pool as the limestone rocks are very slippery. You may opt to wear bathing footwear or waterproof shoes during your swim.

3. Carry your swimwear if you want to go for a swim in the pool.

4. The natural pool has no changing rooms so you will need to wear swimwear under your clothes and also bring your own towel.

5. Apply sunscreen liberally to prevent your face from getting sunburnt.

6. Carry mosquito repellent to take care of insect and mosquito bites.

7. Toilets are located at the park office, which is at a distance of half a mile from the pool, so adjust your timings accordingly.

8. Food is not allowed inside and all shops and eateries are located at the park office.

9. Those interested in underwater photography must carry a good quality camera.

By Road: You can take a taxi from Krabi Town and drive for 60 km to reach the National Park in an hour. The Krabi Emerald Pool lies inside the Thung Teao Forest Natural Park, located adjacent to the Bang Teao Village in the Khao Pra-Bang Khram area of Ao Nang. You can also hire a scooter as well to reach the forest area and proceed to the pool.
