Sun yat sen Nanyang memorial hall is a villa that is of two floors, which is now converted into a museum in the honor of Dr. Sun Yat Sen. Dr. Sun was the leader of a revolution that resulted in the fall of the Qing Dynasty. Dr. Sun had many supporters including Teo Eng Hock, Tan Chor Lam etc. The villa was originally bought by Wan Qing Yan for his mother to live in after her retirement and later it was given to Dr. Sun to carry out his revolutionary activities. Teo Eng Hock bought it completely for Dr. Sun.

The villa was declared a national monument and in 1996 the villa was renovated. The villa was then opened to the public in 2001. There are 5 galleries that showcase photos, letters, and multimedia that show Dr. Sun’s relationship with other revolutionists during that era. The other galleries display holograms that display the daily activities of Dr. Sun in the villa. Visit this villa to closely look into the history and importance of Dr. Sun and his supporters and how he helped as a reformer for Chinese education.

There are free daily tour guides who will help you understand the history of the place. Tips For Visiting SUN YAT SEN

  • Children under six years old can get free entry into the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall.
  • The First caretaker of persons with disabilities can get free entry into the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall.
  • Senior citizens have to be of the age of 60 or above.
  • Valid identification must be provided if requested. 
  • The free volunteer service timings vary from English to Mandarin. So, it is advised to time your schedule according to your preferences.
  • It is requested to have all food and drinks outside the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. Food and drinks are not allowed into the hall as they may attract ants and other pests.
  • Littering around is prohibited and it is requested to dispose of your garbage in the dustbins provided outside.
  • The villa is very old hence the cupboards and showcases. So, it is requested to not lean on any of them as they might crack and you might get injured.
  • No running around is allowed in the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall.
  •  Touching any of the artifacts or displays is prohibited because the natural oil from your fingers might destroy the age-old documents and exhibits.
  • It is requested to click pictures without flash. The light from the flash might destroy papers or textiles as they are very old. This is the reason why some of the galleries are dimly lit.

How to Reach SUN YAT SEN

The train station is just 20 minutes away from the memorial hall so you can take an MRT. You can also reach here by bus. There are parking lots nearby like Zhongshan Mall, Home Team NS-JOM Clubhouse, or Ah Hood Gardens housing estate. You can drive and park your car in these parking lots. Taxis and cabs also commute to the memorial hall.
