Satria Coffee Plantation

Tucked amidst a lush jungle setting, the Satria Coffee Plantation, also commonly known as Satria Agrowisata, is amongst the most famous coffee plantations to explore with our Bali tour package. Located in the Gianyar region of the island, the Satria Coffee Plantation is best known for its production of the uncommon kopi luwak. Commonly known as Civet Coffee, kopi luwak is produced with coffee beans that have been previously eaten, partially digested and thereafter excreted by the Asian palm civet, which is found in abundance here.

It is largely due to its unappealing and rather weird method of production that the civet coffee remains one of the most expensive coffees that you can find in the world. Owing to its location within a lush jungle, you can also enjoy a guided walk within the plantation, while also learning about the Asian palm civet, catching sights of these small tree-climbing animals, as well as learning more about the production process.

Satria Coffee Plantation also boasts of producing over 12 different types of teas, some of which are local, and some that are imported from different parts of the world. In addition to tasting these teas, you can also purchase them. Some of these include ginger tea, lemongrass tea, jasmine tea, rose tea, lemon tea, vanilla tea and chocolate tea, among others.

The best time to visit Satria Coffee Plantation is in the early hours of the day, before noon. This is when there is a smaller number of people here, and you can explore the plantation, enjoy the tasting session and even see the production area at ease.

Additionally, the best time to visit the plantation is from April to September, when the weather here is hot but pleasant.

Tips to keep in mind while visiting the Satria Coffee Plantation:

• You must always carry an ample amount of cash with you. In case you face a shortage, you can always find ATMs and banks at certain places along the route, so you can take out money from there if you need it
• Always carry emergency first aid kit with you while travelling to Gianyar where the plantation is located
• It is important to maintain hygiene and sanitisation when visiting the plantation, since you will also be taken to see the production area here

Best places to eat near the Satria Coffee Plantation:

• Warung Tepi Tebing: Located a short distance away from the plantation, this restaurant is known for offering some of the most serene views of the surrounding hills and jungles. They have a menu consisting of Asian, Indonesian, as well as European options, and offer dishes ranging from authentic Balinese delicacies, to sandwiches, crispy duck and chicken, as well as desserts and drinks like beer. 
• Breadlife: A more modern place to indulge in delicious snacks and light meals is Breadlife, located within a kilometre from the Satria Coffee Plantation. In addition to baked goods, desserts, freshly baked bread and cakes, they also serve coffee and tea. They are also known for their prompt and warm service and hospitality. 
• Naga Rooftop Bar and Lounge by Sthala Ubud Bali: Amongst the most famous restaurants and bars in the area, located in close proximity to the Satria Coffee Plantation, the Naga Rooftop Bar and Lounge is famous for its Indonesian and barbecued dishes. They also have an extensive selection of alcohol, from wines to champagne, vodka and more.

Places to visit near Satria Coffee Plantation:

• Lumbung Sari Agroo: An interesting plantation often unheard of, the Lumbung Sari Agroo is surrounded by paddy fields, and has plantations of spices like cinnamon, along with tea and coffee. You can also learn how coffee is made here, in addition to seeing animals like luwak. Besides that, you can enjoy coffee tasting here as well. 
• Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary: Also known as the Monkey Forest of Ubud, this place, located near the plantation, is home to hundreds of monkeys. Besides playing with the monkeys and feeding them, you can also enjoy seeing different species of flora here. 
• Horizon Glassworks: A popular art glass studio located near the Satria Coffee Plantation, Horizon Glassworks is one place where you can see a wide range of hand blown and hot sculpted glass. In addition to visiting the studio to view the entire procedure, you can also buy a lot of glass-made products.

From the Ngurah Rai International Airport, you can take public transport, such as a taxi or a bus which can take you to the Satria Coffee Plantation, which is located around 32 kilometres away. It typically takes around 45 minutes to an hour and a half to get to the plantation from the airport.
