Situated in the heart of the island, is the famous Pura Dalem Bentuyung Temple, which is also one of the most significant temples and sightseeing spots to include in your selected Bali tour package. Popular amongst locals, tourists as well as those who are interested to know about the religious history of this land, the temple also plays host to numerous traditional dance nights.
Besides that, the Pura Dalem Bentuyung Temple is also known for its fire dancers and the Balinese traditional dancers, which perform here on most nights of the week. The dances, performed around the aesthetically symmetric architectural style of the temple adds to its beauty even more, and are known as the Kecak Fire and Trance Dance.
Folktale of the Pura Dalem Bentuyung Temple: The tale around the temple talks of a Hindu priest, belonging to Java, who was asked to move to Bali by Ida Batara Toh Langkir, who used to reside atop Mount Agung. This was because the latter found out that the priest had heard a Pawisik or spiritual whisper, which suggested that he was the one who could help cleanse Bali.
It is said that Langkir threw his weapon out of anger at the priest, and one of its parts landed in the forest. The area where the stone fragments landed later went on to become the Pura Dalem Bentuyung Temple.
