About Mount Agung

Mount Agung, also known as Gunung Agung, is the highest point on the island and is a well-known volcano in Bali. This is a stratovolcano that has an impact on the climate of the surrounding area. Because of the higher rainfall, the west side of Agung is lush green and rich in biodiversity, whereas the east side is inaccessible due to the mountain's dryness and barrenness.

Its unique natural landscape dominates the surrounding areas by influencing weather and climate, and the mountain appears to be picture perfect. From the top of the mountain, you can spot the peak of Mount Rinjani located on the island of Lombok.

Pura Besakih is the famous temple in Bali located high on the slopes of Agung. A path that connects the southern and the western ascent is open during the dry season. The climb from Besakih is quite difficult and the most important trek available here is the sunrise trek that starts around 10:00 pm at night and reaches the top to witness the holy fresh rays of sun from the east.

This volcano trekking will be the best thing you do in Bali. I took Thrillophilia’s help for the booking procedure, which was smooth and fast. The trek ended all the way to the top of Mount Ayung, and once we all reached the top, we could see dense rice fields, crater lakes and even the sunrise.

The trek began at night and they were very alert about the safety of the group. Our guide was experienced and helpful, which is why we had such an amazing experience. The view of the sun rising from the top is something we will always remember. Thanks to Thrillophilia.

The all night trek was one of the most exciting activities we did in Bali. We started as early as 01.00 in the morning and walked all night. The sunrise from atop Mount Agung was well worth the effort.
