About La Coulee Verte Rene Dumont Paris

One of the most treasured hidden gems and tranquil walks in Paris, La Coulée Verte also known as La Promenade Plantée, is an absolute delight and a must-visit. It is an expansive green belt which stretches along the historical Vincennes railway line. The scenic walkway starts just east of the Opéra Bastille with the elevated Viaduc des Arts and continues for almost 5 km eastward ending at a spiral staircase which leads further to the Boulevard Périphérique beltway.

Built on the former tracks of the Vincennes railway line, La Coulée Verte René-Dumont is an elevated walkway located in Paris’ 12th arrondissement. The railway line had opened in 1859 and ran between Place de la Bastille and Varenne-Saint-Maur until 1969. Once you are at Place de la Bastille, soak in the sights of exotic buildings and landmarks in the area including the modern Opera House and Opéra Bastille that dates back to 1989. This is the very spot where a massive railway station la Gare de la Bastille stood for more than a century. Walk along the historic path with our Europe packages and experience the perfect mix of old and new in Paris.

Continue your walk along the top of the old viaduct and explore the artisanal boutiques, the Viaduc des Arts, at street level. Enjoy the serene beauty of your surroundings with bounteous greens, away from the fast life of Paris without having to leave the city.
