History of Kallathigiri Falls
According to popular local legend, the site of the Kallathigiri Falls was a pilgrim site of the holy Saint Agastya, who chanced upon the falls during his wanderings and stayed here for quite a few months. The waterfall also houses the Veerabhadreshwara Temple, which was built during the Vijayanagara era. The temple entrance, characterized by a structure of three elephants, is proof of this, for elephants were characteristic of traditional Vijayanagara architecture. For this reason, the water from the falls is considered to be a holy by the locals. A three day annual fair is also held here every year in tribute to Lord Veerabhadr
