UNESCO has recognised Jatiluwih as part of the world's cultural heritage, and it will not allow the building of star-rated or city hotels, which is even better for tourists to adore this untouched beauty. The drive up to the highlands of Jatiluwih from the island's south takes around 2 hours and is located about 700 meters above sea level in the Penebel district of the Tabanan regency.

As you approach the region, lush green views will greet you, but the major vantage point is higher up in the village. The main area demands a fee, which is normally covered by tour companies and goes to the local village cooperative fund. The vista from halfway up is simply breathtaking, with 180 degrees of gently sloping terraces stretching as far as the eye can reach.

The name Jatiluwih is made up of two words. "Real" is Jati, and "excellent" or "beautiful" is Luwih. So even the name in the native language conveys the beauty of the location. The breathtaking landscapes along the way to Jatiluwih can be seen as you drive the tight, winding road. This region is the only spot in the world where three rice harvests occur each year.

The best time to visit the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces is around sunrise, the reason being its east-facing location, when you'll be able to see a spectacular sunrise as it rises beyond the horizon and fills the terraces in golden shine

By road, the drive from the main tourist areas of Seminyak, Kuta, Canggu and Ubud to Jatiluwih Rice Terraces takes about 1.5 hours. This way, you’ll be going on a road trip along with exploring the entire island.
