Bryggens Museum

The Bryggens Museum, located in Bergen houses artefacts and archaeological material from Bergen and Vestlandet in the Middle Ages, which were findings of the archaeological excavations of Bryggen for 13 years from 1955. The Museum was open to public in 1975 and was built on the remains of Bergen’s oldest buildings from the the first half of the 1100s.These architectural remains are still an important part of the museum’s permanent exhibition, and aims at giving the visitors a glimpse of the daily life in Bergen in the Middle Ages.

While exploring the museum, you will be able to witness 800 year old foundation objects such as ceramics, tools, pottery, skulls, skeletons, artefact ruins and inscriptions. These will give you an in depth insight into the daily life, trade, art and craft, and culture of this city in the mediaeval times. While some of the exhibits of the museum are permanent, others are temporary.
